The Power of Play: Learning through Experience in Early Years and KS1 at BISP

Year 1 Stay and Play -2-2 BISP

At the British International School, Phuket (BISP), we believe that play is more than just fun. It is a vital part of how young children learn and grow. Our Early Years and Key Stage 1 (KS1) programmes are built around play-based learning, creating a dynamic environment where children explore, discover and make sense of the world around them through meaningful experiences.

Why Play Matters

BISP Year 1 Stay and Play -03717

Play-based learning provides the foundation for academic, social and emotional development. Through play, children build language skills, develop problem-solving strategies, form relationships and gain independence. Whether they are role-playing in a shop, experimenting with water, or constructing with blocks, children are constantly learning to negotiate, take turns, ask questions and think creatively.

At BISP, our outdoor discovery spaces are thoughtfully designed to support this approach. Our educators are highly qualified and passionate about delivering engaging learning experiences that follow the interests and developmental needs of each child. The learning environment is stimulating, flexible and rich in resources, encouraging children to be curious, confident and joyful learners.

Strengthening the Home-School Connection

BISP Year 1 Stay and Play -03669

We know that young children thrive when schools and families work together. That is why BISP places great value on strong home-school partnerships, and one of the most meaningful ways we foster this is through our Stay-and-Play sessions.

These sessions invite parents into the classroom to experience a typical day alongside their children. From exploring the vibrant outdoor play areas to joining in with story time and hands-on activities, parents gain a first-hand understanding of how their children learn through play. In Reception, parents have also observed Phonics lessons, gaining insight into how early literacy is introduced in fun and engaging ways.

These moments are not only heartwarming, they are empowering. Parents leave with greater confidence to support learning at home, and a deeper appreciation for the value of play in their child’s development.

A Nurturing Start for Lifelong Learning

BISP Year 1 Stay and Play -03642

BISP is committed to providing an early education experience that nurtures the whole child. With a focus on wellbeing, strong relationships and high-quality play, BISP ensures that every child feels safe, seen and supported. We are proud to offer a programme that celebrates curiosity, encourages discovery and builds a solid foundation for future learning.
